!The Shablul (Cochlea) Race
On Friday, October 16th, 2020, the first Shablul (Cochlea) Race, will take place on the trails of the Jezreel Valley, right on the historic rail route connecting Haifa and Damascus, and along the “Kishon river”.
The cochlea is the “snail” shaped bone in the inner ear, and has a crucial role in hearing. The race is named according to this shape which is “Shablul” (snail) in Hebrew. Furthermore, the snail movement is a metaphor issue for life. The speed is, less important than the forward movement (in every step of life), forward facing the challenges and obstacles in our journey called life.
The race is founded by ENT surgeon, Dr. Reuven Ishai, funded mainly by the Israeli Speech Hearing and Language Clinician Association (ISHLA), supported by Shamaya Association (promoting the needs of hearing-impaired individuals in Israel Foundation), and many other partners and sponsors. Our main goal is to promote awareness for hearing loss and deafness in Israel, and this goal in our point of view can be achieved through a memorable sport event, the running of a meaningful race.
Dr. Ishai, an avid runner, decided to combine his professional and sporting passions to empower both hearing impaired and deaf individuals by showing that overcoming challenges can be exhilarating and fun.
Participants will enjoy a fast and relatively flat trail race, combining both popular and timed events, with a variety of distances suitable for individuals together and families, running together with hearing and hearing-impaired athletes, along with Israel’s top runners, all in the green and colorful scenery of the Jezreel’s Valley springtime blossoms.
All proceedings are dedicated to promoting hearing impairment research and NGOs, with registration fees and sponsorships recognized as a charitable donation for tax purposes. The event is officially sanctioned by Israel’s Athletic Association, with approved timing and distance measurements.
